Use training and encouragement, instead of criticism, whenever practical.
Ie, it feels better as a listener to hear "here is how you handle this upcoming situation" followed by "good job! -- you did x, y, and well! Next time can z..".
Or maybe, "good job/effort, and youll get more chances to practice! that is very good! " (as it really is: we all sometimes need *lifelong* tries/practice.
So probably never: "You messed up! you dont know how to do things right.", which discourages trying and reduces future confidence in ability to learn/grow.
