One question is: do we want what *we* want (in which we often imagine things, to deceive ourselves), or do we want to seek the truth, more?
That is key.
Are we willing to humble ourselves before our Heavenly Father and do things His way? (Doing so, making the changes where needed, is called repentance.)
Or are we persistent in rebelliously doing things *our* way instead, harming ourselves and others?
Our reward, lack of reward, or punishment will be accordingly.
His commandments as given through the ages and today through His prophets, are like guardrails on the highway: intended to help us.
