Don't check email continuously throughout the day, unless there is a particular (unusual) need, or you are required to.
That can break concentration and harm productivity.
It is also polite not to expect that of others (ie, continual chat monitoring). Give them some space if the subject allows it.
It might be best to have 1 or more regular times.
