They didn't seem to want to loan me a key to practice that once, even though they knew me well. There were concurrent events and maybe they needed their keys.

• Next time I might say (very respectfully & hopefully gently): you can't expect a good job if I can't practice. It's up to you of course.
• Or maybe ask if who is better to ask to loan it to me? Hmm.
